Development Project 2005-2008
|
The YMCA of Greater Montreal has embarked upon an ambitious development project to make YMCA Kanawana an outdoor center serving 5 times more children, youth and families from the Greater Montreal and Laurentian regions. By developing, YMCA Kanawana will welcome more than 5,000 individuals of all walks of life in an environment of tolerance and respect.
YMCA Kanawana will be an oasis for those who need it the most, providing a special welcome for children and youth who are at risk, who come from underprivileged communities or from families that have recently arrived in Canada.
VISION Through camping and outdoor education, YMCA Kanawana will provide children and youth with the opportunity to grow and develop into strong and healthy individuals who care about their community and the environment. A leader in environmental sustainability, YMCA Kanawana will be a model of development in Quebec and North America. AN ECOLOGICAL MODEL YMCA Kanawana will be the first Outdoor & Environmental Education center in Quebec to be founded on the principles of environmental sustainability. MASTER PLAN The YMCA Kanawana Development Project represents a $4.4 million investment which will be completed in 2 phases over a period of 3 years.
PHASE I - Revitalization, environmental retro-fitting and expansion to 3-season programming.
PHASE II - Year-round outdoor and environmental education for children, youth and families.
