OUTDOOR ADVENTURE PROGRAM
AGES: 15-16 LENGTH: 27 DAYS RATIO*: 2:10 trip, 1:10 in camp *Ratio=staff:camper
HISTORY The Rangers program was launched in the 1950’s as a response to the needs of the oldest Kanawanians who wanted to challenge themselves in ways they felt they could not as campers. The year 2002 marked the return of the Rangers program.
THE PROGRAM This is a 27-day intensive program that features excitement, challenge, self-discovery and advanced skill acquisition in the areas of leadership, cooperation, and outdoor living. The Rangers program aims to develop personal growth through various outdoor experiences and community living, and of course, is a great deal of fun!
Throughout their 27-day experience campers will: - Go on an 8-day wilderness canoe trip offering all the thrills of the Voyageurs program.
- Participate in an intensive survival and camping skills experience
- Help prepare and lead a hiking trip to the Sauguenay region of Quebec.
- Participate in the Wildlife Gaining Ground program project to make our summer site more welcoming to wildlife
- Participate in the Lumberman & Voyageur games
- Go on a duo (see FAQ Link below)
Skills campers will learn: - Basic survival skills including:
-the art of camouflage, -the bow drill(fire without matches) -brewing wild teas, -to read animal tracks and signs, -to build shelters - How to plan a trip, set up a camp site, pack and cook camp food.
- Basic paddling and navigation techniques
STAFF
The Ranger program is led by two ranger leaders who are qualified back country guides. For more details on our Tripping Safety & the certifications/qualifications of our staff, please consult our Health & Safety page.
